Padrón: Where the Legend of St. James Began

According to tradition, the boat carrying the body of St. James landed at Padrón before his burial at Compostela.

    The Pedrón

Beneath the altar of the Church of Santiago in Padrón lies the Pedrón — the stone to which the boat was said to be moored, and the origin of the town's name.

    Peppers and poetry

Padrón gives its name to pimientos de Padrón, small green peppers fried in olive oil and salt — most are mild, a few are fiery. The town is also linked to the Galician poet Rosalía de Castro, whose house is a museum.
